Ruth Fitton

I had this painting in mind for almost a year before I finally began to put it onto canvas. I wanted to explore themes of perception and isolation; the outward appearance, and the inner reality which is seldom perceived. A person may appear quiet while all the time their heart is crying out. I decided on this two-fold depiction of the same model; the calm exterior and the emotional anguish she carries with her. She sits in a turbulent textural environment while above, visible only to her inner self, hovers a great emptiness.
